Churchtoday announced that the congregation will continue to function and plans regularweekly discussion services inpar-the weeks — and hopefully — the years ahead.A 2-1 vote of the congregation recently set the wheelsin motion for the continuation of the church here with meetings scheduled for the sonage at 1824 9th St.The church building itself has been turned over to the City of Monroe which has agreed to a long-term lease with the Green County Historical Society. The oldestchurch edifice in the city, the building is destined to become a historical museum and will be opened to the public sometime this year.The majority of the church members, although in favor of giving up the building itself. have not disbanded and instead are seeking a renewed interest in the denomination.Donovan O. Otteson has been elected the new president of the board to head adifferent slate of officers in the reorganization process.Other new officers include Minor Anderson, treasurer; Mrs. Walter Hammer, vice president; Mrs. Minor Anderson, secretary; G. E. (Ed) Trickel and Mrs. Robert Har-dell, members of the board.Otteson said the first meeting of the new board will be held Feb. 14 to make moredefinite plans for the future.The parsonage has been vacated by Rev. Peter Rasmussen, who has been pastor of the church here since the fall of 19G4. The Rasmussen family moved from Monroe | this week, but his plans for ! the future were indefinite.Bi But being without a min-S ister hasn’t discouraged most members, and they plan to keep the church and its tradition going as long as it remains feasible to do so.Temporary plans call for the sale of some church furnishings, but the original small pulpit probably will go to the parsonage for use by the congregation. Redecorating of the parsonage also is a strong possibility, and a smaller organ mav be ob-diII]gtPib(organ may tained after the larger model in the present church is sold.oiFAnd one of the most treasured items, “The Faith,” will be taken to the parsonage to hang there as a framed inspiration to the church members.
