Mrs. Mary Catherine Synames, wld-w of the late Joseph It. Symmes andone of the mot respected and belovedwomen of Hamilton,died Friday nightat 10:30 o’clock at the home of her son,William Symmes, Hat 1 of the Gor*Ion buildion A street.Mts. Symines was 77 years, 3 monthsand .') days old and her death was dueto general debility brought on by heradvanced years.Mrs. Symmes was born October i!c,1824, in a log house along the banks ofihe hydraulic north of the city, adaughter of James It. Hicham.She was the last of theoriginal Bigham family, whichwas at one time one of themost prominent and iniluential families of this county. The Bighamswere the founders of the Presbyterian church in this city and Mrs.Symmes was a devoted member of theFirst cluirch.Her grandfather, William llgham,was one of the earlv settlers of Butlercounty and homesteaded quite a largefarm on the Miami river, north ofHamilton.Mrs. S' mines was the mother of ninechildren, of whlt;»m all are dead withthe exception of William Symmeswith whom she lived.For twenty years Mrs. Symmes hasbeen blind, but at ail times patientand kind. For Iftcen years she hasbeen a resident of Hamilton. Mae wasa devout Christian woman and lovedby all who knew her. Not alone herImmediate family and relatives butmany friends will miss her.The funeral will be held Sundayafternoon at 2:30 o'clock from thebouse, IF v. Charles Anderson Austinofllclatlmr. Interment.
