With all the composure of a man who was fearlessly and implicitly obeying orders, he calmly answered, “I was ordered on picket duty here, and as yet I have had no orders to leave.” Needless to say the orders were soon forthcoming. One of his duties was to aid in firing the cannons. His close proximity to the heavy cannonading seriously impaired his hearing, which was never restored to him.October 11, 1866 he was united in marriage with Sophia Pavey and the following spring they moved to Clinton County, settling near Reesville. After a residence there of two or three years they lived for eight months on what was so long known as the Charles Pavey farm a mile and a half west of Sabina, then movedCVt:de- to what is now known as the Sniderad-ndty,na.ts-lottoH*ca0olOffarm on the Greenfield pike. Here they lived for eight years, when they | q moved to the farm on the Urbana pike that was their home for twenty-six years. Sixteen years ago they moved from that home to take up their residence in Sabina, where Mr. Venneman passed the remainder of his days. Nearly fifty years ago he united with the M. P. Church at Pleasant Valley, afterwards transferring his membership to the Reesville M. E. Church. A few years later,n, when that church was merged with the church of the same denomination at Sabina he became affiliated with the Sabina congregation, where he continued in membership until his death.Mr. Venneman was a man of good general information, deriving much pleasure and satisfaction from reading.
