Mrs. Bateman resides with the Gorters. They came to W’nlla Walla about two years ago.Both were bom in Columbia County of pioneer parentage, Mr. Bateman was the son of the P. B. Batemans of Dayton and his mother, Annie Kirby Bateman, was reputed to be the first w’hite girl born in the city of Walla Walla.Mrs. Bateman was Pearl Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Zachary Williams, early day pioneers. The couple married Jan 2, 1910 at the Williams farm on the Whetstone.During the first World War, Mr Bateman was in the Marine Corps, stationed at Mare Island. Most of his life he has been in the clean ing and tailoring business.in Seattle. The three grandchildren of the couple include Kirby Parker of Walla Walla.
