Dr. IVddmm Mathews aLlt;l Mrs. Emms Sandfo-d were united in marriage in this city at 6 p. m. to-dav at the Tennessee house, the nuptials being celebrated by IVt. T. M. Cobb. pastor of the M. E. church south, of tiiis city. A rcry larg** ouniber of the friends of the contracting parties were present, and a number of valuable ar.d costly presents were presealed. Dr. Mathews is one of the best known cili sens of the capital. He is 77 years of age md this is the third rib he has taken unto himself. Mr*. Saodford, the happy, if no*, youthful bride, is 60 years of age and fur the p*st ten years has beeu matron of th*-female department of the penitentiary.
