HARRY FULKERTNews CorrespondentWhen Peggy Hartley walked up thr aisle of St. Nicholas' Church in Hull, England on November 15th, to be married to Mr. Albert Middleton, she was wearing a nylon illusion veil which belonged to an American girl thousands of miles away.Peggy, who lives in Hull, had chosen her bridal gown of white lace when she wrote to tell her pen friend, Mrs. Clarence Nancy Egcrt, of Elmore, Ohio, and to express her desire to wear the veil.Back came Nancy’s reply, “I shall be happy if you will wear the \eil that I wore in my w'edding.” And a little afterwards, the veil was delivered, via Air Mail, at Peggy’s house.Made of white nylon illusion by Mrs. Egcrt for her own wedding, November 24. 1950. the veil was fingertip length attached to a satin and lace cap. At each side of the cap Peggy arranged orange blossoms.Peggy and Nancy have been pen friends for eight years, ever since Peggy was a pupil at Francis Askew senior girls’ school, and Nancy w'as a 7th grade student in Harris-Elmore school. Nancy received Peggy’s name through her7th grade Geography class.An article and pictures appeared in the Hull Times, showing Miss Hartley trying on the veil and also the wedding picture of Mr. and Mrs. Egert.The wedding veil was returned to Nancy on Tuesday of this week from England—a concrete ex-1 ample of a working understanding between an American and an English woman.
