POULTRY BUILDINGGOOD WORK OF FIRE DEPARTMENT SAVED PLANT FROM TOTAL DESTRUCTIONAbout 7:30 o’clock Thursdays ight the big whistle at the City Electric Light and Water Works Plant sounded alarm of fire and soon the streets were filled with a throng of eager people bent on seeing the conflagration. The darkened condition of the thorofares made it difficult to travel at fire speed but the engineer at the works accomodatingly turned on the street lights and thus overcame this handicap. The whole western district was lighted up by the blaze which was located in the creamery building of the Fountain Produce Company. The fire had gained great headway before the alarm was turned in, but the prompt response and excellent work of the fire department kept the whole group of buildings from being destroyed. As it was, the fire was confined to the one building, which was almost entirely consumed. The loss other than the building, consists of ten cases of egg case fillers, 40 gallons of sulphuric acid, two cream testing outfits, 100 cream cans and a consignment ofrubber junk. The building and contents were fully insured. The fire is supposed to have originated from a defective flue. While the burning of the creamery building handicaps the concern to some extent, they are progressing with the usual routine of business just the same as before the fire and are taking care of their trade. No definite arrangements have been made at this time as to rebuilding, but it is a safe prediction that the company will replace the building with a more modern and up-to-date structure.
