An accident at 2 a.m. Sunday morning seriously injured a Moab boy and sent (lin e of his companions lo Alien Memorial Hospital for treatment before they were released.Tin? accident occurred 200 feet east of the Castle Valley Bridge in the middle of Castle Valley when a 10R9 Pontiac driven by Marty Haaland, 15. failed (o nego tiate a turn and ran off I ho road. The car rolled over four or five t mes, according to Grand County Sheriff W. H. Bowman, who investigated, and finally came to a rest on its top 312 feet later.Two of the boys. Bob Carter, 13. and Corky Lover-idgo, 111, were thrown fromthe car. The others, Haal- aand and Jimmy West, 15, t)climbed from the mangled eauto after it came to rest. §•Sheriff Bowman listed ex vcessive .speed as the cause ],of the accident, as well ?.s arelative inexperience of the driver. Speed was estimated ^ at about. 70 miles per hour.As of Tuesday, Haaland was still in Allen Memorial Hospital with severe head clacerations and a possible cconcussion. His condition it had improved, however, from t;serious tc fair. The other t.boys were treated and re- eleased.Owner of the Pontiac which was totaled out. was the Haaland boy’s mother, HeVn Haaland.
