FIFTIETH WED-Mr. and Mrs, James Gaffney CelebrateAttendants At Tlieir Marriage FiftyYears Ago, Present At Anniversary.With the presence of the family circle and immediate friends, the 50th anniversary of the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Janies Gaffney, well known and respected residents, was observed Thanksgiving Day at the home of their daughter, Mrs, James Bohan nab, wife of the overseer in the dye department of the plant of the Hartford Carpet Corporation. A mass of Thanksgiving was celebrated at St. Patrick's church at 8 o'clock in the morning, in honor of the occasion, which was attended by a large gathering of relatives and friends. Rec, Thos. .1. Preston, pastor of the church, was the celebrant. He took occasion to congratulate the couple and said they had been among the layers of the cornerstone of the present church, as well as being the cornerstone layers of the faith in the town. He wore his gold vestments in honor of the occasion. There was special music by the choir under the direction of the organist.When Mr, and Mrs. Gaffney were married 50 years ago there were no automobiles, but they enjoyed a ride Thanksgiving Day in honor of their anniversary through the outlying districts and on their return went to the home of tlieir daughter in Walnut street where an elaborate dinner was served, about thirty-five immediate relatives and friends being present, together with their attendants, at their marriage 50 years ago. Scott of New Britain.A turkey dinner was served and many neighbors and acquaintances called during the day to extend their hearty congratulations to the venerable couple, A feature of the festivities was the presentation of a weli-filled purse of gold by Master Kdward Bohannah, to bis grandparents, A pleasing presentation speech was made by Miss Dorothy Gihlin of Springfield, also a grandchild, to which Mr. and Mrs. Gaffney expressed their appreciation and said they felt the day was one long to he remembered.Mr. and Mrs. Gaffney are both natives of Ireland, and came lo this country in their youth and located in Tariffvtlle, where they were married oil November 2, 1SC3. by Rev, -i Fagan. Soon after tlieir marriage they went to Thompsonville and bought some real estate on Al-tlen avenue and built a home for themselves where they have since lived. They were among the early Irish settlers in Thompson villa. The union was blessed with six children, three of whom are living, Mrs. Bo-haimnh, Mrs. B. W. Gihlin *of Springfield and William of Brooklyn, N. V. They also have seventeen grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Gaffney 1 ave been regular attendants at St. Patrick's cliurcli and despite their advanced age are enjoying excellent health. Mr. Gaffney is one of the eldest members of the Holy Name Society of St. Patrick’s church. He has always taken an interest in gardening and his long experience lias made him an expert in that work and his advice has been sought by many, Mrs. Gaffney was an experienced dressmaker in her young days and even now is handy with i he needle and thread.After receiving the well wishes of those present that they would live to enjoy many more years of happy wedded life, Mr. and Mrs. Gaffney were escorted to their home in Al-den avenue by their children.
