Summer wedding ceremony unites Shawneetown coupleMr. and Mrs. Robert R. PattonOn Saturday evening. June 2, Miss Nancy Jo Howard and Robert Randall Patton were united in marriage with the Rev. W T. Parish and the Rev. Gary Garretson officiating. The double ring ceremony was held at the First Presbyterian Church in Shawneetown before an altar centered with the unity candle beneath a golden arch entwined with white and blue flowers, flanked with baskets of white gladioli and blue carnations. Spiral candelabra with burning white tapers completed the setting.The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Violet DeVous of Shawneetown and Herman Howard, Jr. of Junction. Mr. and Mrs. John R. Patton of Shawneetown are parents of the groom.The bride, escorted and given in marriage by her father, wore a formal gown of ivory Quiana knit. Silkened Venise lace outlined the cameo bodice, designed with a high neckline and long slender sleeves. A full flowing Watteau train fell from the lace trimmed yoke over the softly flared floornsilk white carnations and white rose buds with accents of blue.Miss Donna Scherrer, close friend of the bride, was maid of honor Serving as bridesmaids were Miss Wilma Jo Kanady, friend of* the bride, and Mrs. Debbie Fromm, sister of the groom.The attendants wore identically styled gowns of baby blue with a fitted waistline and spaghetti straps. A sheer print / jacket with short ruffled sleeves * was worn over the gowu. Their headpiece was a headband with fabric rose at the side. They carried colonial bouquets of blue and white pompons.Miss Ronda Fromm, niece of the groom, was flower girl. She wore a blue printed dress and carried a white wicker basket with petals.Serving as best man was John Seely, Jr., friend of the groom. Groomsmen were Terry Golden, friend of the groom, and Donnie Fromm, brother-in-law of the groom. Dan Howard, uncle of the bride, and Tony Kivett. friend of the groom, were ushers. Both wore white orchid corsages.Special guests of the couple were their grandmothers, Mrs. Josephine Howard and Mrs. Eva Smith, who had corsages of white carnations.Appropriate nuptial selections were played by Mrs. Vicky Vickery, organist, as the guests were seated. The soloist, Mrs. Cheryl Downen, sang “The Wedding Song” and “Sunrise, Sunset during the ceremony.A reception was held immediately following the ceremony at the American Legion Hall in Shawneetown. The bride’s table was centered with a three tier cake with the traditional bride and groom on the top. The table was covered with a white linen cutwork cloth with crystal punch bowl and silver candelabra with arrangements of carnations. Arrangements of satin rosebuds were on the guest tables.Hostesses at the reception were Helen Howard, Jonell Howard. Pam Howard, Susan Seaton, Rita Milligan, and Linda Golden. Ellen Bosaw presided at the guest book and Betty Krikie was in charge of the gifts.The bride is a 1979 graduate of the Shawneetown High School and the groom is a 1974 graduate and is employed by Peabody Coal Company.The newlyweds are making their home in Shawneetown.
