A LOCAL ROMANCECLOSES HAPPILY.Thos. B. Paxton and Milt Bertha L. McKee Married atPeoria, 111.Thos. B. Paxton, a Fort Mad'son young mau and machinist at the Santa Fe shops, son of Thos. Pa*ton, master mechanic of the “Frisco” at Arkansas City, Ark., and Miss Bertha L. McKee, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. McKee of 2tt Frontstreet, caused a flutter here a few days ago by engaging in an elopment and for several days kept the parents of the young lady in a most uncomfortable state of mind, as no tidings of their whereabouts or the course they took could be found.The painful suspense of the parents has at last been relieved by the receipt of a splendid letter from the daughter written at Peoria, 111., announcing the fact of their marriage which took place at the court house in that city August 14, Judge W. I. Stemmors of the same place officiating. The letter is full of daughterly love and while acknowledging the wrong done her parents by elopement says that such seemed the only alternative as the man she loved had been refused admittance to the parental home. She asks parental pardon and says that if she has done wrong she is as much in the blame as anyone else. The letter says that Mr. Paxton lias a promise of a position not many miles from Peoria where they will remain until all obligations in Fort Madison are met, when they will probably gosouth.Although the parents were angered by the course taken to thwart their wishes they have become *eeonciled and have granted the young coupleunconditional pardon, just as all sen*sible parents have done in thousands of like cases in the past and The Democrat desires to join them iu good wishes for the success and happiness of the young couple. | They are young people well known iu Fort Madison and quite popular among a large circle of friends and acquaintances who undoubtedly wish them all joy and happiuess.
