Missionaries Met 40 Years Ago In ChinaGrace McClurg, Rev. Dr. Carson WedBy HOPE STRONG Tima Neves Women's EditorThey met 40 years ago in China,Yesterday they became husband and wife—the story-book climax to the friendship of Lima's Miss Grace McClurg and the Rev. Dr.F. Stanley Carson.The bride, a resident of 602 S.Metcalf St., for many years, begins this new phase of her life after her 1948 retirement as a Lima public school teacher—she had served 23 years—and following 11 years as a missionary in China.Her husband, now retired and residing in Tujunga, Calif., served 36 years as a Methodist missionary in China. He also had a pastorate -at Dakota City, Neb., and was a teacher at Morningside College,Sioux City, Iowa.The ceremony was performed at 11:15 a. m. in Grace Methodist Church, where thfc bride had been a lifetime member and lay leader.The Rev. Edward Brewster, Forest, son of a missionary whom the couple had known when the minister was a child in China, and the Rev. Vernon Van Buren, Grace pastor, solemnized the nuptials..The bride’s sister, Ruth, a Milwaukee, Wis., teacher, and the Rev. Paul Wiant of. St. Paris, who recently returned from mission work in Formosa, were attendants.And among the close relatives and friends witnessing the ceremony was another missionary to the'Chinese, Miss Mabel Davis, now of Cincinnati.Following a luncheon in the Clemans Building, Dr. and Mrs.Carson left for the Lake Erie Methodist retreat at Lakeside.
