Anniversary to boost Ryderwood populationRYDERWOOD — A single wedding anniversary should dramatically increase the population of tiny Ryderwood this weekend.Dick and Violet Padget are celebrating their golden anniversary on Saturday. Their offspring have invited more than 150 relatives and friends to the retirement community of 375 people located in the north end of Cowlitz County.“Let’s put it this way,” son-in-law Harry Phelps said, “they’ve rented everything in town. Everything is rented, including the park and the lake.”Dick Padget may be known to area residents as a member of the so-called “Meanest, Ugliest and Oldest” ambulance crew in the area. Padget, Bob Dorgan and Ken Grant were featured in an article last year in The Chronicle. None of the crew was younger than 65.The other categories are a bit more subjective.Phelps will arrive Saturday from Reno, Nev., with his wife, and Padget’s daughter, Penny.“She’s married to the ugliest,” he said. “We’re quite proud of it, too.”
