Wise, a fine ten pound baby boy.” i The years slipped by and some freckles and red hair came to school and they called him Thomas. Tis said that the | a r quiet little lad didn’t say much, but r when teachers asked a question, Thomas always knew. The paths veered g* for a season, but in 1914 W. A. Wise j cc came to Alice and established a business and a home. Thomas didirt say much, but went about making friend- i and money. One day he spied a pretty J si little blackeyed maiden all dolled out in ribbons and frills and things. He didn’t say much but he learned that her name was Mary. Time rolled on and J di one day the world went mad and Thomas who by now had ironed out most of his freckles and had learned to know Mary quite well, went off to war. | wMary, budding into radiant womanhood j ^3 j went away to school and some more of the sands of time slipped thru the glass. On Christmas and holidays | w Mary came home and in her wake came ardent youths. People wandered, q and Thomas, back in the grocery store, a didn’t say much, but he knew. Concluding a brilliant career at South- £ western University, Mary came home with her degree and some hearts. People wondered again, but Thomas * kn.w. Just then gay strains from the piano seemed to help the silver moon brush away a tiny cloud and ' at hvman’s altar Thomas won. 1sinlt;iVa1
