Capt. W. H. Owen Jr.. a Jap-prisoner of war following the fall of Corregidor Island May 7, 1942 where he was in command of North Sector, under Gen. Mac-Art hur, has at last been able to direct word through to his y. Mrs. Owen who residesafaeCapt. W. II. Owen. Jr. ej 9with her two sons Billy and Mich-jj ael. at 202 East Burlington Ststated this morning that Billy had received a card from his father which said he was in excellent health and had been moved from Camp No. 1 in the Philippines toCamp No. 4,There was no date of mailing onthe card, and the fact that it had been addressed to the family’s former address at 504 North Court St.. indicated he had received no mail from them.Almost a year ago to the day, on August 16, '43, Mrs. Owen received a card from her husband, furnished by the Japanese government to prisoners, which stated his ^health was ‘‘excellent” and that he ^ was ‘‘not under treatment.” jMrs Owen’s last letter from her husband, started on April 25. ‘42 and completed April 30. received j in June of that year, stated he had been given the “Silver Star’ •citation for gallantry in action on Corregidor and also the “Purple Heart” for wounds in action. IP wrote from a tunnel hospital in Corregidor. It was assumed thathe received his injurv sometime in April of ’42 and that he expected * to leave the hospital in 10 days 1 after the letter was written.
