Mr. Oscar Stewman of the K}gin section, accidentally shot himself in the hand Saturday afternoon while handling a pistol at his home. Magistrate Mobley of Heath Springs turned over $12.00 to the treasurer» Monday, collection of fines for the past quarter. Mrs. Lizzie Roddey, wife of Mr. W. B. Roddey of Rock Fill, mother of Miss Mary Roddey of this place, died last Sunday. She was about 50 years of age, an excellent christian lady, and leaves her husband and four children surviving her. Sheriff Hunter and Policeman Pardue surprised three colored gamblers in the wee sma’ b hours of Sunday morning, Henry Perry Frank Lowry and Baxter Hart. They plead guilty before Magis trate Caskey Monday morning and got 30eays each or pay a fine of $5 each. All planked down the wherewith except Frask, Ernest Sims and John Garris, two young white boys, were each convicted before Magistrate King Monday of assault and battery and each sentenced to pay a fine of $5, or spend 15 days on the gang. Mr. Adam Ganson, of New York City, is here on a visit to the family of his brother, the late lamented Wm. Ganson. He is one of the executor’s of his broth er’s will, the widow being the other. The will was probated yesterday and the executors qual ified. Magistrate King of Cedar Creek township made his settlement with the county treasurer Monday for the past quarter, turning over $30.80, amount fines, etc., col lected. Pursuant to call the Confeder ate veterans of the county met io the court house Monday. W. WU. A. Porter, chairman of the com mittee on enrollment presided and Capt. L. J. Perry acted as secre tary. After distributing the books for enrollment and instructions how to proceed to the several township committees on enroll ment, a resolution was adopted asking each township chairman to call a meeting in his respective township at the earliest possible day and proceed at once with the work. It is urged that the com mittees try and complete this work by Nov. Ist, as the town ship enrollment books are expect ed to be handed over to the Clerk of court by that date for record ing in the county enrollment book.
