FOOLED THE OLD FOLKS.( Mr* Walter Burgess and Mist Jessie Smart-hout Cat Marrieo x d Keep Their Secret Wail.About June 1 last Mrs. S. R. Smart-hout and daughter, Jessie, of Chicago, visited friends in St. Lou ip, but the tond mother never dreamed that she was unconsciously leading h*r lovely daughter to the hymeneal altar, for if she had possibly she would h*ve gone alone^ But love laughs at locksmiths and possibly the same results, would have come about in time. Anyway Mis9 Smarihout was betrothed to Walter Burgess, whose home is in this city but was, at the time our story opens, employed in a railroad office in St. Louis.The lovera met frequently and on June 10th they sought out Rev. Dr.. Cunningham of the Methodist church and were married. As the parents of both contracting parties objected to their uuion, the lovera decided to keep the matter quiet for a time at, least. Accordingly Miss Jessie returned with her mother to Chicago and Walter remained in St. Louis.
