SLlfSheriff Foruance came up Tuesday and summoned a commission of physicians to pass upon the mental condition of Mathilda Altman, of Lincoln, complaint.' having been entered by the ^authorities of the town, that she-1-was insane. The facts as shown by the evidence offered to the physicians, was to the effect that the woman has for a number of years been subjected to brutal and inhuman treatment from the hands of her husband, and that while not insane,she bad by reason of the treatment received-, become broken, down in spirits; and at certain periods showed signs . of deraentation. Their returns were in substancein accordance • with these facte.The woman was'taken to Grand Rapids’Wednesday; and will undoubtedly be cared for a few weeks. Tuesday evening Altman was brought before Justice Bartela to answer for the charge of assault and battery, on the person of bis wife, and was fined $10and costs, which, he paid.
