WINTERS PRESENT,The Former Pastor Opened the Fair and Wa: Presented With a Substantial Purse-%The annual fair and bazar of St. Jo-- • •seph’s church opened in Music hall Iasi night in a blaze of glory.The hall was beautifully decorated with American flags and ensigns.The platform on the left of the hall was occupied by the booths and soda stand and that on the right by the gifts of various societies and people.Rev. J. T. Winters opened the bazar and was presented with a purse by Owen Riley, treasurer of the commit-tee which had the purse in charge.Father Winters made an appropriate.speech in reply, thanking the people for the kind remembrance,and thenpro-ceeded to give a short description oJ his work in Hartford, where he is now located.After the opening speech the people flocked to the booths to purchase the pretty articles which were on sale, Mrs. F. A. Lane acted as cashier.The table of the Ladies’ Sewinj Guild which was covered with the handiwork of the guild such as doilies, scarfs and other fancy articles was in charge of Mrs. Owen Riley, Mrs. Edward Flynn, Mrs. Hayes and Mrs. Bernard.. «•.* The confectionary table was incharge of Miss Margaret Murphy anddid a very good business. The ice9cream booth was in charge of Misses Ella Condon, Annie Harford, andMarv Shields,Messrs. Riley, Schultz, and Hines had charge of the soda water and were very popular with the buyers.Many gifts were presented by friends of the church, among them being : Afine dining room set, presented by South Norwalk Division, No.l, A.O.H.; a cheifonnier given by St. Joseph's T. A. B. and L. society; an onyx-topped table from A. J. Collins; a beautiful rug from Mrs. Hines and a stand, presented by Mrs. Helena Murphy’.There were also a rocking chair,Mrs. Margaret Larrigan; a reclining.charir, Mr. and Mrs. John J. Shea; a tidy, Mrs. Dufault; a ton of coal, Edward Flynn: a stand, Mrs. Edward Flynn, and a desk, Mrs. M. Mockler.Freeman’s orchestra furnished sweet music, to the strains of which many of the young people danced.The fair will be continued to-night and Monday, Tuesday and Saturday nights.
