Betrothal Announced atnParty in San FranciscoProf. and Mrs. Edward Chace Tolman of LaLoma Ave have announced the engagement of their daughter, Deborah Drew Tolman, to James Goodrich Whitney, son of Dr. Elizabeth Whitney of San Francisco and the late Dr. James Whitney. In the absence of the Tolmans in Tucson, Ariz., the news was revealed yesterday at the cocktail party given by Dr. Lewis to honor Mrs. Clinton G. Abbott of San Diego and her daughter, Lois, who is the fiancee of the hostess’ other son, PeterWhitney.Miss Tolman, sister of Mrs.Thomas Kent, Jr. (Mary Chace Tolman) of Berkeley, and Edward James Tolman, was graduated from Radcliffe College with the class of 1939 and is teaching in the [Presidio Open Air School, San Francisco. Her father is chairman of the department of psychology at the University of California.Mr. Whitney was graduatedfrom Yale in 1938 and is now on the staff of a San Francisco newspaper.No definite plans have been announced for the wedding.
