OBSERVE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF MARRIAGEBraidwood Couple Honored by Friend a at Jubilee In Home Town.Memories of a war wedding of ISC'; were revived in the 40th wedding anniversary celeb ration of Mr. and Mrs.Charles J. Stillwell of Braid-wood.Taking ‘ French leave, Mr. Stillwell, a soldier in the army, slipped out of camp and returned to his home town to marry his childhood sweetheart.A family reunion Mr^ f |and reception to WELL,friends marked the anniversary in fho Stijlwell home.Mr. and Mrs. Stillwell are among the oldest married couples in thispart of the state. Mr. Stillwell is 82years old and his wife 80 years.Born in Canada.Mr. Stillwell was born in Bains-vitle, Quebec, Canada, in 1842. HisWife, whoso maiden name was MaryE. Dennis, was horn in Zanesville, Ohio, In 1844. They areengaged in fruit farming and truck gardening near Braidwood.In 1854 Mr.Stillwell came to America, settling in Anrrabam. 111. At the outbreak of the civil war he enlisted as a member of Com-C. J. Mm.!,WELL, pany 1 of the 27th llinois infantry, serving for two years, and after his marriage re-enlisted and served to the end of the war.Wounded in Battlo.At the battle of Stone River he was badly wounded and taken prisoner. serving time in the Libby prison till transferred in the exchange of prisoners. While waiting for the red tape” of the exchange procedure to be unwound, he departed from camp without leave and returned to his Illinois home where he was married April 14, 1843. He subsequently re-enlisted and served to the end of the war. Their married life has been spent in- Illinois, Iowa and Kansas.Helping them celebrate the anniversary were Mrs. JL M. Wright, a daughter, of Joliet; Mrs. E. J. Lyons, a daughter, of Maroeiine, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Wright and Miss Grace Wright, grandchildren, of Jo? liet, Charles Stillwell, Jr., a son, of San Francisco, Cal., was unable to attend the reunion.Mr. and Mrs. Stillwell have 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. They are both ambitious to see the next decade and believe they will. Mr. Stillwell works on his farm and in his garden, whHe Mrs. Stillwell does her own housework.
