Smith inher home last Friday afternoon from four to five o’clock when she entertained in honor of Miss Florence Mil-utlvhCatiaHhii*tlet’ of this city, announcing her engagement to Mr, John Buford MeLoud of Kingsville, Texas. The home was appropriately decorated with cut flowers. The manner of announcement wasquite unique. At a given time, after the arrival of the guests, a messenger hoy delivered a Western Union telegram in which Mr. and Mrs, J. W. Miller announced the engagement of their daughter, Florence to Mr. MeLoud. The wedding is to he May 5th.Miss Miller is one of the most popular young ladies of our city. She he- | 8longs to one of the oldest and most Lhighly respected families of South- j j west Louisiana. She1 has lived in De-Quincy with her parents for the last jseveral years and enjoys a wide acquaintance. She is an active member f of the Methodist church and for some _ ,years and had the distinction of beingthe President of the local Epworth j League. Her happy, sunny disposition, j charming manners, and personal application to the things most worthwhile has easily won for her the admiration and esteem of all who knowis(lt;(1iher.Mr, MeLoud came to our city about a year ago and has been employed with the Gulf Coast Lines where he has gained for himself a most excel- j lent record, a position of trust. He has proven himself to be sober, steady and thoroughly reliable.
