William Byrd Lee, rector of the Episcopal Church at Auburn, has announced his resignation to become rector of Cople Parish in Westmoreland County, Va. He and his family will leave around'June 15.Mr. Lee came to Auburn 21 years ago, shortly befQre the Church of the Holy Innocents was completed. He came here from Norfolk, Va., with Mrs. Lee, the former Mary Alexander Seddon. There were about 25 or 30 members at that time. Present membership is around 150, not including students.A native of Glouster, Va., Mr. Lee was graduated from William and Mary, where he captained the football team his last two years. He is also a graduate of Virginia Seminary at Alexandria, Va.When the United States entered the first World War, Mr. Lee was in YMCA work. He joined the chaplains corps and without any army training served on the front lines with the 80th division. He was a lieutenant colonel on the staff of Gov. Frank Dixon.Following his discharge, he got married and went to V.P.I. as a minister. From there he took a church at Norfolk and then in 1927 came to Auburn.Mr. and Mrs. Lee have four children. Seddon and Mary plan to receive master’s degrees from A.P.I. in August.
