PleasantBoles and Edmund Boles Jr.* were brothers, and were among the earliest natives of the county.*Edmund Boles was born in Ire-; land and emigrated to Virginia. He was a veterinary surgeon and a farmer and served in the war of 1812. ife married in Virginia and moved t6 Indiana territory about 1807. He was the father of Edmund Boles. Jr.and Pleasant Boles.Pleasant Boles was born near Fort Harrison. Knox county. Feb. 13, 1811 and died August 28. 1888. He married Juiia Franklin, born in Kentucky in Mercer county. Dec. 7, 1S10. The wedding was in 1832. Pleasant Boles ran flat-boats on the Wabash river to Natchez and New Orleans, making two trips each spring, while during the remainder of the year he farmed. In the winter months he did whip-sawing.Edmund Boies, Jr., was born about 1820 in Gill township. He married Jemima Bundy, a native of North Carolina. He bought 40 acres in Turman township, whichhe sold and later bought a farm of 100 acres. In August, 1S62, he enlisted with the 71st Indiana Regt. Company I, and served throughout the war. He returned to Sullivan county and died in 1899.W. H. H. Boles, son of Pleasant Boles, was born in Haddon township in 1837. He served two years in the civil war.At the May term, 1828, the courtdecided the case of Modisett v. Bindley and onother, a suit involving title to land in Vigo county. 2 Blkf. 119. Lindley was Jonathan Lindlev who bought land in Sullivan county in 1816. Part of his Holdings were in Turman township. His name again appears in the reports nearly 20 years later.
