WE interviewed officer Thomas Greene last night at the Whitten hotel, where lie is residing until the O’Donnell inquiry is ended. lie informed us that 011 Monday he was called on by Manager Chambers because of a report spread amongst the workmen 011 the Island that a strike wascontemplated. The following was foundwritten on a can and posted 011 an ore car:—“ We are going to strike for a rise of pay the same as the other Company.”This meant the Dominion Company who had been giving 14 cents an hour a few days previous—18 cents being the amountreceived before—with the approval of the Manager, there being no strike whatever, officer G .eene remained until 8 o’clock in the afternoon when he left for St. John’s.There was nothing came out of the scare published 011 the can. A reward is now offered by Manager Chambers for information about it.
