TROUBLE AHEAD.Hundreds of Case Q Where Magistrates and Ministers Have Violated theLawBY FAILURE TO MAKE PROPER RETURN OF THE MARRIAGES PERFORMED,All of Which May Entail Loss Upon the Persons Married.HOW IS IT GENTLE READER, IN YOUR OWN CASE? AND IF iSO.iCAN YOU PROVE IT?While a Gazette reporter was looking over the record of marriage certificates issued by the County Clerk, the other day, the discovery was made that, in many instances, no return of the mar riage has been made by the minister or magistrate, as is required by law. The law making it a penalty if certificates of marriages are not returned, has been inforce 6incc 1S53.In case the minister or magistrate who s®lemnized any of these marriages is dead, the witnesses dead, and the certificate lost or destroyed, as is the case in many instances, there is then no record nor even a particle ot evidence to show that a marriage was ever pertorrned. There are instances every day where it is necessary lor persons to prove their marriage. This is shown in the courts. Also when a widow makes application tor a pension, it :s necessary for1 the marriage to be proven, or the pension can not De obtained from the government. In every case where the minister or magistrate failed to make this return to the clerk within ninety days after the marraige he has violated the law and is liable to a line of $50, imprisonment and an indictment trom thegran a jurv.
