Two youths who yester day “ chickened out” of a planned robbery after slug ging their intended victim were in Bucks County Pris on, Doylestown, today—and lucky to be there. They are lucky because they might not have made it if the gun their victim grabbed had not jammed when he tried to shoot them. The youths are Harry T. Weller, 18, of 413 Court A, Bristol Terrace II, and Jack H. Flower, 17 of 4617 Eugene Drive, Margo Gar dens. Planned Robbery They told Bristol Township po lice they planned to rob Anthony Saranzak, 55-year-old operator of a service station at 1801 Route 18, Croydon. The two boys voluntarily turn ed themselves over to police at 8 o'clock last night. Flowers’ fa ther took the pair to police head quarters. In signed statements the youths said they picked Saranzak be cause he was old and alone. Struck On Head According to their plans, the youths went to the service sta tion about 3 p.m. yesterday. They asked Saranzak for automobile fuses, and when Saranzak bent down for the fuses they hit him on the head with a piece of pipe. According to their statements, Flowers struck Saranzak as plan ned previously Saranzak was stunned by the blow and started to fall, but, ac cording to police, he caught him ‘self on a table Still dazed he reached for a gun he keeps in the station. The youths, seeing what he was doing, ran out. Saranzak told police he tried to ‘fire his pistol after the fleeing youths but the gun jammed. He called his wife who in turn call ed township police, Two Sent To Scene Set. Robert Hibbs and Patrol man Andrew Zosh were sent to the scene. The case was later turned over to Patrolmen John Rice and Wallace B. Michener of the investigation squad. When the pair fled the station lone of them left his jacket in the building.
