Two cases of scarlet fever in which the patients are six-year-old pupils of the same first grade room at the Penn Street school have been reported to Health Officer Ralph W. Gobrecht in the past several days. The patients are Horace Spangler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Spangler, 208 Stock street, and James Henry, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Henry, 24 George street. Precautions aimed at preventing spread of the disease were taken immediately upon discovery of the first case. The class room was thoroughly fumigated Tuesday after the children were dismissed for the Armistice Day parade. Seven pupils in the class room were placed under observation quaran tine for a ten-day period after the first case was reported, and all of the pupils in the class were sent to their homes this morning as an extra precaution against spread of the illness. Other pupils at the Penn Street school were dismissed early this afternoon so that the entire building could be fumigated. Health authorities suggested today that parents keep their children isolated as much as possible and urged that a physician be called at the first suspicious symptom. There is no reason to fear a general out break of the disease, it was pointed out, but application of “an ounce of prevention” can do no harm.
