Mrs. Wi. F. (Catherine) Peterson, 77, has been making hooked rugs as a hobby since girlhood days. She has no idea as to the number she has made but she’s sure it would run into the hundreds. Last winter she made eighteen. How do you make a hooked rug? Well, you need a frame covered with burlap (Mrs. Peterson uses feed sacks), a crochet needle (she uses one made by her late husband from No. 9 wife), and plenty of woolen rags. These rags come from rummage sales and friends,.Woolen sweaters or any soft woolen material makes excellent rug material. The largest rug made by Mrs. Peterson is a 12 x 13 living room number, part of which is shown in the picture. The next largest is a 17, x 9, but most are throw rugs, 3 feet by 6 feet, and smaller. Her floors are covered with these beautiful rugs. She sells some and, to quote Mrs. Peterson, “they make wonderful ‘wed ding gifts.”’
