Barn Was Ignited By a Falling Lantern. Personal Items. Napanee, Jan. 5.—Oan Monday, night fire destroyed a barn belonging to W. T. Milee, first concession of Ernesttown. Mr. Sweet, who has the property rented, was attending to hia etock for the night, and hung the lantern up in an accustomed place. One of the horses got loose and ran against the lantern, knocking it down amongst the straw and in a few minutes the place was in flames. The cattle, with the ee of one, were released from the building, but the contents were totally consumed. An insurance of $200 was on the contents ; it is now known if Mr. Miles had any insurance on the building. There died in North Fredericksburg on Monday last, one of the oldest and most residents, in the person of Mrs. Elizabeth Lucas, at the advanced age of eighty-four years. Daceseed was born at Amberat island and was the relict of the late George Lutas, and had many warm friends in the neighborhood, who were re cipiente of her kindness in her earlier life. The funeral takes place today at one o’clock to the Morvén vault. 1 a sero peeeetn township, fed on Sunday, aged thirty-seven years and eleven months. Dessieed had been ailing for over a year. The remains were placed in the Napatiec vault on Monday last. Alexander Henry, Toronto, is renewing ac andintances in town this week. Mies lanchs Grieve takes charge of Roblin school and Misa Ada Reid the Jubilee school, South Napanee, for 1898. W. H. Astelatine has returned to resume his studies re * institute. Mrs. George for, London, is spending a few days with relatives and friends. *
