‘Prison Term Probable As a Result of Extortion Attempt PROVO, Dec. 9—(CP)—Downcast and penitent, 19-year-old Russell Bennett, who used carrier pigeons in a futile attempt at extortion, sat, disconsolately in a jail cell today, virtually resigned to a prison term. Months ag0 young Bonnets read a magazine article describing how farrer pigeons were used by ex tortionists, it sounded simple enough. What was more, the boy reasoned, he wanted to attend college and was short on money. Why not compel Mrs. Amanda Knight, wealthy widow, to pay his way through school? Thus the extortion campaign be igen. It has been carried on against Mrs. Knight and her son, J. Will Knight, bank president, for 10 months. Efforts to find the black smaller failed. Through it as—even when “dynamite notes” came—Mrs. Knight, 2 pioneer tyne, refused to, give one cent. The Knight home was always under police guard. The other day a box came con taining two pigeons and a threaten ing note.
