FLORIDA — The Florida trash compactor should be modified to a “heavy-duty” compactor within the month, according to selectman Daniel N. Fogarty at the selectmen’s meeting last night. The trash compactor, which selectman discovered last week did not fit the specifications of the model they ordered, will be modified by the installer, Berkshire Cleanay Rubbish Removal, Inc. of Dalton, to fit the specifications the town eee ordered. “The standard model had a 10 hoi wer motor, which is what we resed on the contract,” Mr. Ogarty said. ‘‘The hydraulic pistons on the standard model are two inches in diameter — they will be ep to four inches. The compaction face is made of a one-half inch steel plate. It’s supposed to be three-quarters of an inch, but they will be upgrading it to an inch. About 400 pounds of steel will be added to the compactor free of charge by the installer.” The selectmen had sent a letter to the installer informing him of the eee and the installer con tac them in return Thursday, according to Mr. Fogarty. In other business, Sen. Peter C. Webber, R-Lenox, contacted select man Francis A. Grillone about the apparent cuts in school tran sportation on Florida’s cherry sheet for the fiscal year 1982 to 1983. He informed Mr. Grillone that it a ared Florida never received 1,000 on last year’s cherry sheet. Sen. Webber said he sent a letter to Thomas Collins in data processing in the state department of education to check on the cut and also last year’s figures. J. Fogarty said he believed the town might have actually gained funds this year if the town did not receive the $51,000 on the cherry sheet. He added that the original sum of $51,000 on the cherry sheet might be questioned. Last year the sum might have been recured by the state, who never informed the selectmen about the cuts, he said. The selectmen also informed Harry F. Peas road commissioner, that the Florida youth program, which employs about 35 teenagers, would end Aug. 20 when the money allotted by the town for the fee) is scheduled to run out. The program runs for a period of six weeks.
