By CHARLES McGURK Courier-Times Staff Writer What was in that black box in the trunk of Nicholas Saran zak’s car Wednesday night that caused the tussle between po lice and Saranzak’s family? A reliable source today dis closed that $97,000 in cash was in the box. At the time of his arrest, Sa ranzak had at least another 1, 000 in his wallet. Saranzak of Croydon, await ing a hearing on six charges including involuntary man slaughter, was the driver of the car that crashed into a stop sign was hurled through the air striking and killing George H. Kurtz Jr. as he was preparing to burn trash in an incinerator on the side lawn of his home at Newportville and Power Ave. Saranzak was pronounced in toxicated by a physician at Low er Bucks County Hospital and the results of a blood test, re leased today, indicate he had more than the allowable limit of alcohol in his blood stream for driving a motor vehicle. The unusual accident provided quite an indoctrination into po lice work for Jack Farris, a re cent appointee to the township’s police department. Scheduled to start an eight week stint at the Philadelphia Police Academy yesterday, Far ris was looking forward to a routine patrol on Wednesday which would end as scheduled at 10 p.m. The accident was a real taste of police work for the former mechanic. When the call came to Farris, patroling with Officer William Thompson, both thought it was a routine collision. Arriving at Newportville Road and Power Ave., they found any thing but a routine assignment. (Continued on Page 26, Col. 4)
