Dettemer of 6666 Clearview Ave., Cornwells Heights, came over to the car and Saranzak got back into the car at the passenger side of the vehicle, pulled a revolver out of the glove compartment and pointed at the ambulance driv er. Hogarth said he grabbed the revolver twisted it toward Sar anzak and forced his hand out side of the car toward the roof of the vehicle. He said that Dettemer and another man help ed him get it out of Saranzak’s hand. Hogarth said they removed the bullets from the revolver while he held Saranzak in the car by wrapping a towel around his neck and twisting it until the Bensalem police arrived and put him in handcuffs. Nurse In Ambulance Hogarth also said yesterday that his wife Shirley who was the nurse on the ambulance call tried to treat a bump on Saran zak’s head with a compress, but that Saranzak punched her in the face. At the time of the accident police found a black metal box in the trunk of Saranzak’s car which they said contained $97, 000 in cash. Saranzak, who testified yes terday for the judges benefit on three guilty pleas — carrying a concealed deadly weapon, re sisting arrest and assault and battery against a police officer — denied there had been $97,000 in the cash box. He said there was $23,000 in the box. Asked what he was doing with that kind of money in the trunk of the car he said, ‘‘I just felt like keeping it there.” Denies Gun Protection He denied he carried a loaded pistol to protect his money and said he always left the gun at home accept for those few days when he had been doing some target practice. On a charge of drunk driv ing, Saranzak testified that he only had two shots of whiskey and two beers, but that he had taken tranquilizers for a nerv ous condition. A Philadelphia medical exam iner testified that Saranzak after the accident had .23 per cent alcohol in his blood stream, which is higher than the per centage for definite intoxica tion. Calls Behavior Peculiar Bucks County District Attorn ey Ward F. Clark noted that the defendants behavior was ex tremely peculiar. At the time of Saranzak’s arrest he was wear ing two wrist watches. He told the court he was wearing them so he could check one against the other. Judge Biester deferred sen tencing on Saranzak’s guilty pleas and also deferred a ver dict on whether Saranzak should be charged with involuntary manslaughter pending the psy chiatric examination, which may be made at the Bucks County Psychiatric Center. Saranzak was represented by attorney James Fitzcharles III of Bristol.
