““Thirty Years Ago.” John R. Crocker, of Basco, Wis., writes us a letter which we would not publish were it not that so many have referred to the article: “The article on the first page last week—Thirty Years Ago,” is the greatest piece that I have read since the war. It drove me into ecstasies. I shall go round hat in hand to beg money enough to print 1,000 copies on slips of good paper for distribu tion among the people. You must go to Cincinnati in one month, with thousands of copies. It will rouse them to enthusiasm as nothing else would. Then may we sound the loud trumpet over corruptions’ dark sea; the people have triumphed, a‘nation is freel”’ L. Frederickson: Rates and routes will be advertised in the G. W. very soon now. The Central Traffic Associ ation have advertised a one-fare both-ways rate from Chicago to Cin cinnati and return. The Western As sociation met Wednesday this week, but we did not hear from them in time to publish. [Telegram receive stating no reductions west of Chica go. But there may be a change yet.—E. W. F.] Our old acquaintance, D. P. R. Strong evidently used to “know us” in our terrific fight against the wheat ring, etc., when in Pope Co. He pub lishes the following in his paper, the Polk Co. Review: THE GREAT WEST. We became acquainted with E. W. Fish when he was the editor of the Minnesotan (Pope Co.) and we con sidered him one of the brightest jour nalists in Minn. A little cranky— but it requires a crank to move spherical bodies—but awake to the living issues of the hour. We know of his having sold out and publish ing THE Great WEsT in St. Paul, but until this week we have been un able to turn up a copy, and only now by chance. We hope Bro. Fish will see to it that the Review is duly en tered on the X list, if for nothing else—‘“for auld lang syne.’’ Farmers and Farmers’ Alliance men need The Great West. In fact we hardly see how they can afford to farm without it, and it is our candid opinion that they should order it at once. The Great WEsT has received a letter from the Central Traffic Associ ation stating that Delegates to the Great Conference at Cincinnati, May 19th, can have a one-fare round trip rate. This applies between Chicago and Cincinnati. The Western traffic Association has not reported yet, but we are expecting it every day.
