Celebration at Canada Verde Sept. 25th, 1921.Perhaps one of the most notable events In the history of Canada •Verde occurred on the 25th of September, when in honor of the independence of Mexico, the people of that place assembled at the beautiful Yndo Park and gave expression to their feelings of gladness and appreciation for the Unselfish and disinterested sacrifices made by their forefathers in order to secure the independence of their native land.At about 4 o’clock a large reception committee motored over to Calaveras, and met Senor Angel Casaria, the Consul, and the Vice Consul, of San Antonio, and returned to the Yndo Park at the entrance of which flag bearers with the American and Mexican -colors met the party and conducted it to the pavilion where in a sbckt time the exercises began. The National anthem of Mexico was sung by the young ladies and school children of Canada Verde, after which the Consul was inrtodueed by Mr. Salinas, and he proceeded to make the people an address in the Mexican language appropriate to the occasion.Patriotic speeches were also made by the Vice Consul, D. A. McAskill, District Attorney of Bexar .county; Samuel Belden, attorney for the Mexican government; T. P. Morris and J. E. Canfield. .At aboue 6 o’clock about 50 guests, together with the San»Antonio party, were conducted to 2 large restaurants, presided over by Mrs. Rodriguez, and Mrs. Rivas, and were served by the ladies of Canada Verde, with a Mexican supper that could not be improved upon in any respect. Every Mexican dish known to the culinary art was served and the most critical could not find fault with its preparation or its service-Every guest departed with the firm conviction. that a more royal and whole-hearted reception could not have been tendered.May each succeeding celebration be a type of the one had on this occasion.Mr. Mdhuel Yndo and his splendid family together with all the citizens1of Canada Verde are certainly to be complimented for the hospitable manner in which they received their guests and conducted this dightful affair. A Guest.
