Previn himself, though not yet 40, has already won aeclafm as a jazz and classic pianist, a composer, arranger and television personality.Horn in Berlin, Germany in 1929, he studied at the BerlinConservatory of Music and the Paris Conservatoire before coming to this country in 1939 with his parents. The Previns settled in Hollywood, where the younger Previncontinued his studies.Later, the young musician went to work for MGM.Through subsequent years, Previn’s output totaled more than 40 scores including original background music for such films as “Bad Day at Black Rock,” “Elmer Gantry,” “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” He has also received 11 nominations for theAcademy Award and fourOscars for”Gigi” “PorgyandBess,” “Irma La Douce,” and “My Fair Lady.”His classical contributions as a pianist include record-of Mendelssohn and Fau re Trios and a mance of the Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. One with Leonard Bernstein and theN e w Y o r k Philharmonic.More recently, Previn has recorded the Rachmaninoff Concertos Nos. It is ranked as one of the major symphony orchestras in this country and has won critical acclaim everywhere.The concert here Todaymarks Previn’s third visit tothe HemisFair city.
