Paris BPW to host district conferenceThe Paris Business and Professional Women’s Club will host the District 12 BPW conference Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 4-5.Gloria Gunter of Paris, District 12 director, will preside and honored guest will ble Margarine Beamon, state BPW president.The conference will be attended by members of BPW clubs in Bonham, Clarksville, Commerce, Denison, Hunt County, Minute Managers in Sulphur Springs, Greenville, McKinney, Pottsboro, Paris, Sherman, South Grayson, Texoma, and Sulphur Springs.Registration begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Best Western Inn with a district board meeting scheduled at 10 a.m. A luncheon at 11 a.m. at Chisum’s Restaurant will feature Judy Jordan, a newscaster with Channel 7 in Tyler. She will speak on women inbusiness, particularly in the media.Opening ceremonies at 1 p.m. will be followed by workshops from 1:30 until 5 p.m. Dr. Nancy Me-Claren, assistant superintendent of the Marshall Independent School District, will conduct a workshop on the impact of current educational reforms. Jackie Alsobrook, a member of the Paris club, will conduct a workshop on politics teaching how to effectively communicate with legislators and Dr, Eric Salzman will conduct a workshop on child abuse.A reception honoring Mrs. Beamon and Miss Gunter will be held in Rheudasil Learning Center, Paris Junior College, from 6 until 6:30 p.m.Those attending the conference will be entertained with a Texas-style barbecue at the Community Exhibits Building Saturday night.The Paris Squares Square Dance Club will provide entertainment.A reception to honor candidates for district offices will follow the barbecue and will be held at the Best Western Inn.A Sunday morning devotional and memorial and business meeting will be held at Chisum’s, Workshops on Project 2012, Foundation, M.D, Anderson Fund and Planning Committee survey will continue until noon.Mrs. Beamon will be speaker at the Sunday luncheon at dhisum’s.Mrs. Beamon has been a member of the Capital City BPW Club in Austin since 1969. She has served the Texas Federation as recording secretary, first vice president and president-elect. She served as District 6 Director for two years and was chosen as Outstanding District Director in 1980. She has attended all state conventions since 1970 and has attended nine national conventions. Sheowns two companies, Beamaon Metal Company, Inc., which specializes in metal brokerage and recycling and Beamon Accounting and Consulting, which provides financial and planning expertise to small and medium size firms.She has been instrumental in originating, implementing, promoting and following through with a braille project for the blind that has grown nationwide. She has received the Mayor’s Meritorious Award; the Governor's Volunteer of the Year Award, the National Community Education Association Citizen-Leadership Award, and the State Blind Worker’s Association’s Outstanding Contributions.District officers other than Ms, Gunter are Nell Avery of Wolfe City, secretary; Elsa Wallace of Sherman, treasurer; Lucille Hull of Sherman, state nominating committee member, and Connie Fallon of Sherman, alternate to state nominating committee.
