Peak Island. residents plan to carry their campaign for adequate water supply to the Legislature In special session in' the guise of an enabling act whereby the Island may bo included In territory of the Portland water district. This is Interpreted io mean tin obligation on the pari of tho district to lay a main to the island , from tho mainland.Water from artesian wells is distributed by the Peak Island lt;’orpinstImi that also supplies gas to residents, and engineers are investigating to determine If the veins of supply low down under ■ the island are shrinking. Ti Is believed this Is so, anil that would mean obtaining water for domestic purposes . and protection from lire from the mainland.
