Two hundred residents of Peaks Island at a mass meeting at Island hail, pledged thcw* confidence in Dr. Richard P. Black of that community, who is held without hail in the county jail on a charge of the murder of ilcane York, Sept. 10, after an alleged illegal operation. A fund for his defense has reached the total of $1,025. The campaign for the fund’s growth will extend into Long, Chebeague and Cliif islands, where Dr, Black made constant visits during the severe winters of the past 10 years, administering to the sick. The committee in charge of the fund includes Dr. J. A. Belohur, vice president of the Forest City Improvement association, of which the physician was president; Charles Briggs, Dr. Charles E. B. King and A. W Day. A minstrel show will be given in the Gem theater for the fund benefit. *
