Outdoor concert scheduled todayThe Richardson Community Band will present an old fashioned outdoor concert this afternoon at 4 p.m., on the south lawn of the Richardson Heights Recreation Center.Joe Frank, professor of instrumental music education, director of the SMU Symphonic Band, and former coordinator of music for the Richardson Independent School District, will conduct the band during the afternoon program.Selections for the presentation will include “Chicago Tribune March,” “Tribute toStephen Foster,” “PentlandHills, “Here’s Chicago,”“Suite of Old AmericanDances,” and His ExcellencyMarch.” “Here’s Chicago is a medley including “Beginnings,” “Color My World,” “Does Anybody Really Know What Time it Is,” and “Free.The Richardson Community Band is an all volunteer group. Anyone who would like to play with the band needs only to show up for rehearsals and sit in on the practice, which is held every Wednesday, at J. J. Pearce High School, from 8 to10 p.m.There are no try outs for positions and the band is open to anyone who can play an instrument. They especially need saxes and oboe players.Today’s concert is free and the public is invited to attend.
