'September Affair'aids Ballet, MuseumSeven young dancers from the Jonathan Watts is taking aNorthwest will be joined by leave of absence from Joffrey's three young members of the New York Apprentice programto return to the Pacific Northwest where he served this pastsummer as Associate DirectorCity Center Joffrey Ballet for performances at the gala September Affair, Sept. 27 at the Seattle Art Museum to benefit both the Pacific Northwest Ballet Association and the Art Museum.The three soloists from die Robert Joffrey company will be Francesca Corkle and William Whitener, both from Seattle, and Denise Jackson. They will appear in excerpts from the famed ballet “Konservatoriet”, to be staged by Jonathan Watts, currently director of the New York Joffrey Ballet scholarship training program.The seven young dancers who will be in the supporting ensemble are: Melanie Andrus, Janey Kawaguchi, and Theresa Ann Padvorac from the Seattle area; Joan Everson and Patty Rowan from Tacoma; Rita Hodges from Portland, Oregon; arid Marilyn Gilkeson from Pullman. All these ballerinas were participants in the Pacific Northwest Ballet Association’s 1969 scholarship program with the J offrey B allet this summer at Pacific Lutheran University.of the P.N.B. Watts was a member of Joffrey’s original company creating leading rolesThe ballet chosen for the September Affair benefit is from the repertoire of the C ity Center Joffrey Ballet and has been seen only in the Tacoma performances in this area. ’TConservatoriet”, new to the Joffrey repertoire this past season, is one of the earliest and best examples of the great August Bournonville's “ballet d’action’'. It has been a national treasure of the Royal Danish Ballet ever since it was first seen in the King's Theater in 1849.Reservations for the September Affair, which will also feature the opening of the Seattle Art Museum's new show, ’The Art of Tibet” and famed designer C ardinali with her newest fashions, are available through the Seattle Art Museum, Volunteer Park, Seattle.
