It gives promise of good times fur nil. It the happiness of the people depended solely upon Material conditions, then wn might well claim today to he the happiest people In the world.. Important, however, us material prosperity h, we can out depmd upon • It for the truest happiness. We are a thinking people, We cannot forget that■ this state and our whole country has just emerged from the depths of Industrial depression, nor that we have Just passed through n .period of war, which necessarily has brought grief mid distress to thousands of’people in this laud. We ehall have failed to learn viuit the state fair, with Its pleasant■ association*. has 1.0 teiich ub if we neglect .to do our share toward le*«enlng the grief and burden of those who have suffered.In -a year like* this, more than in ordinary times, the state fair comes to be a com-liliuitiqii of annual festival and -educational Institution, 'where the people come, lay lug aside ail questions of political or religions differences, end meet to enjoy themselves socially and to ieam those things which . wib enable *tbem to Improve their con*. dltions.■ In noting thq sucrose of the state fair this year under its new auspices, one cannot forget the praise due to the people of Milwaukee for their generous support of the fair. If Anything were needed to prove-that Milwaukee Is the place in which to hold the state fair, the enormous attendance each day of city people would furnish *t.I congratulate the board of agriculture and the people of the state generally upon the success of the fair this year and upon the evidence of prosperity whleh this great exhibition present*.
