A Kurd«r nrrtnh* to Light.Lodi (Cal.), Sept. 23.—G. \Y. Holme*, aged twenty-seven, married, and a fanner, who lived about three-quarters of a mile from Burson, na; shot and killedab »ut six weeks ago. The body was found yesterday by Sheriff Thorn of Calaveras County, in an old well about thirty feet deep. The slio t-ing is supposed to have born done by J. XV. Smalling, who is under nrr«*-t and in jail at San An lreas. It was given out by hi wife that Holmes had left the country, but the Sheriff thought different and searched till he found the remains. Tire cau^e of tho shooting i* unknown. Smalling is a brother of Mrs. Ilonms. The weapon used was a shotgun. lloimes was shot uuder the right ear.
