EVEN Herbert W. B e a s e r, chief counsel for the Senate subcommittee on Juvenile Delinquency, seemed to place too great an emphasis in his recent letter to The Engle on “the lust and crime and violence which characterize many TV programs, movies, comic books, magazines and newspapers,” Mr. Beaser made many discerning comments about the possible sources for juvenile delinquency, but like others he tended to weigh too * heavily the influence of the above as opposed to home, school and church. Although he disagreed with Walter Lippmann’s article on the subject in almost every other respect, he chimed in with him on the bad influence of mass media.Somehow I have the feeling that Walter Lippmann knows less about movies, television and comic books than almost any man on the street and I think this condition is true of all these other people who write so knowingly about the harmful effects of television and comic books.
