and comic books are so far down on the list as to make them negligible.Of course, it is hard to explain why four youngsters should go around torturing and killing innocent victims or why a beered-* up kid should stomp a man to death, but these are exceptional cases and should be treated as such. Most cases of juvenile delinquency involve smashing windows or shoving girls or acting wise on street comers. This is due to animal spirits, surging of hormones and running with a pack. Most small-city delinquency is of this type and can be solved by stern words and common sense.* 0 0STEALING CARS. robbinghouses and mugging pedestrians is not juvenile delinquency; it is crime. No matter how young the perpetrator of the deed, there is something radically w'rong in his make-up that was not caused by watching crime programs on television or reading c o m 1 c books. This bov is an individualmmcase and reading good books or watching only Howdy Doody will not make him a good citizen. The problem goes much deeper thanthat. If 1 ‘I fear .that all the yelling about comic books and movies and television will serve only to cover up the real causes for juvenile delinquency while the problem becomes increasingly worse. The pack is so busy chasing comic books at full cry that environmental conditions, world tension and just plain bad seeds tend to be overlooked.
