The one-hundred-yard foot race between Dick Ertle, of Massillon, and Dave Williams, ofCanal Fulton, on the Mathie race track, which was won by the former in Tuesday,* failed to cause much excitement in the sporting circles of the “Hill.” The match was thought to be in the wrong hands, and had the appearance of a “job/* but since hearing of the manner in which the betting was conducted, it is so posed the race was onthe “dead.** We are told Massillonsports could have picked up five hundred dollars more if they had had confidence in their man. As it is one hundred and fifty dollars covers the amount that changed hands, including the stakes. Ertle, after giving Williams three yards start, won by about two feet. j
