The Sesquicentennial Commission, sponsored by the Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce, has been preparing for the 1995 SesquicentennialCelebration for four years. In order to develop, market and execute this historic event, the Sesquicentennial Finance Committee started a fund-raising drive called “Project 150.” The goal was to raise $100,000 to offset costs of major events such as a Founders Day Breakfast with noted religious speaker, Dr. Bruce Larson, Co-Pastor of the Crystal Cathedral in California; Good Friday and EasterSunday Sunrise Religious Services; a large parade; a barbecue in Landa Park on the Wurstfest grounds; a large fireworks display; and a multitude of entertainment throughout the Sesquicentennial week. One of the largest expenses to be inamed by foe Commission is a four-foot by 12-foot cast aluminum plaque.“This historical memorial symbol will feature four line art renditions, drawn by artist Paul Tadlock, of theimmigrants coming to Texas and arriving in New Braunfels. These renditions will be surrounded by numerous historical pictures depicting the scenes of early New Braunfels,” stated Dennis Heitkarnp, chair of foe Sesquicentennial Finance Commitfee.‘To date, the Finance Committee has reached the minimal goal of$100,000, Heitkarnp said. “We want to thank all of those individuals, clubs and organizations, and companies that have donated to this project. A minimum of $100,000 will cover most of the costs of foe Sesquicentennial Celebration, however any additional funds will just put icing on the cake,” he continued. The committee has designed several categories for financial contributions. One of the most popular categories is the Gruender Verein (Founders Club) category. “We are going to limit this group to only 150members to symbolize the 150 years ofNew Braunfels and we are very close to reaching that,” stated Heitkarnp. With the Gruender Ve»ein (Founders Club) membership for $300 per person, an individual will have his or her name listed in the Sesquicentennial program, the name engraved on a plaque which will be on permanent display, free admission to all official Sesquicentennial sponsored events, and an attractive VIP name badge. An individual may also join as an Ansiedlcr (Settler) for $150 per person.
