Cheer SquadGets All SetThere are big plans in the making for the 32 PHS cheerleaders of ’59 who have organized and have come up with some wonderful new ideas for this year.The new uniforms are just one of these new ideas. They are made up of maroon wool jerkins that match the pleated skirts and a long-sleeve white blouse. These will be worn the first few games or until the weather turns cold. They will then be replaced by a bulky white sweater and the same pleated skirts.Another item for the season is the new song, “Buckle Down, Big Crimson”,to the time of “Buckle Down Winsocki.” It will be accompanied by a chorus-type dance step. This will also be used for the cheer rally to be held in Richmond in the late fall.The racket makers for this year are Troilen Gainey, Brenda Saunders, Barbara Ford, Betty Taylor, Dorcas Lews, Ginny Gib Lewis, Pat Ruffin, Betsy Vaden, Barbara Ayscue, Taney Pegram, Barbara Boisseau, and Bonnie Ford.The last six named are the new cheerleaders and they are sure to be a big asset to the squad. Ginny Gib Lewis is the head cheerleader and Barbara Ford is the eo-head. Troilen Gainey is the business manager.This year will be the greatest ever, the squad promises, and the cheerleaders will be there doing all they can to promote sportsmanship and to make possible a successful sports program.Miss Mary T. Bailey is the faculty sponsor and cheerleading coach.
