400 kiddies participate in paradeBy DeMaris Berry Of The Southern Illinoisan An estimated 400 children participated in the Murphys-boro Apple Festival Children’s Hobby and Pet Parade on Friday to make the parade “one of the largest ever held.” Marion Nash, Apple Festival chairman, said: “Not only was the parade better, it wasmore imaginative.”He estimated there were over 80 decorated bicycles.Winners in that category in the order they placed were Allen Snydern first, Patricia Thomas, Jeff Gibbs, Scott Gill and Jerri Robison.In the Mother Goose category, Randy Starnes, dressed as a baker and pushing a large cake, won first.The old woman in the shoe took second place. Pulling the shoe were Gary and Jimmy Strothmann, and Keith, Paula, and Pam Voss.Other winners were Elizabeth Riggs and Debra Webb as Aladdin and Genie, Laura and Denise Bowers as Pinoc-chio, and Cindy, Kevin, and Keith Keipp as the Three Little Piggs.In the miscellaneous category, a worm with a £ign saying # “If you think our worms are big, you ought to see our apples,” took first place.
